Digital Entrepreneurship: Export your Knowledge to the World and earn income

Digital entrepreneurship is the new and dynamic way entrepreneurs are creating ventures and generating revenues while leveraging the internet. It opens up new ways of finding customers for entrepreneurial ventures, new ways of designing and offering products and services.
Digital entrepreneurship allows entrepreneurs to generate revenue and reduce marginal cost by eliminating most overhead costs present in brick and mortar businesses. In the digital world, there are several opportunities to collaborate with platforms and partners to grow your business.Researches have shown that the greatest export from Nigeria is not Crude Oil but Human Capacity. Our Best Medical doctors, Scientists, Engineers, etc are in affluent lands because of something they have: knowledge and experience. Going through the digital space, I am amazed at what many Nigerians are achieving in this digital space. The HeadStart Africa 2020 showcased some of these Nigerians. If you were a participant in that event, you will understand what I am talking about. These young Nigerians are leveraging the internet to export their knowledge to the world.
As edupreneurs, you can leverage this new dimension by offering digital products and services. Have you thought about how you can package your wealth of knowledge and experience into digital products and services and export them to the world? What platforms can you leverage to create and export your own knowledge? Here, I discuss 5 ways you can do that:
1.       Create and Sell your Books on Amazon.
You can self-publish your eBooks on Amazon Kindle direct publishing for Free. Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) allows you to publish both eBooks and paperbacks and sell on Amazon Kindle stores worldwide. You can visit kdp.amazon.com to get started. You can earn up to 70% royalty on sales to customers in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, etcAlso, Amazon has Print on Demand services, where you can give them instructions to print your books into hard copies and ship to customers that order for hard copies.Edrin Edewor, Joshua Oshinowo and my own business coach, Kazeem Abolore are examples of few Nigerians who books have gone on to become Best Sellers on Amazon.
2.       Create and Sell your Online Courses on Udemy
Udemy is fast becoming the Amazon of the Online Course industry. You can create online courses on your skillset, knowledge gathered from researches, or experiences acquired over the years. When you visit Udemy, you will be amazed at what topics people are creating courses on. Sales made from your online courses are split between you and the online courses website you hosted your courses. Other online courses websites you can host your courses include Teachable, Thinkific, Skillshare, Futurelearn, Coursecraft, etc.You can also decide to teach the courses directly from your own website and keep 100% of the revenue. Stephanie Obi, Temi Ajebewa, etc Nigerian raking in millions having created online courses.
3.       Create and Sell your Videos on Vimeo
Package your knowledge as videos and sell on Video-On-Demand (VOD)websites. I told one of my entrepreneurship classes recently that we do not have many African origin videos on Youtube. Imagine a teacher trying to teach topics in Social Studies, Geography, History, that require local content, what videos on Youtube can come in handy?  So, do you see the market gap? Videos are the hottest digital products in the digital market. Video-on-Demand (VOD) is generating income for those who position themselves well. You can sell your videos on Vimeo.Other websites where you can sell your videos include Uscreen.tv, Payloadz, etc
4.       Record your knowledge as Podcast and offer as Subscription-based on SimplecastAnother way you can package your knowledge for export is through podcasts. Podcasts are digital audio files made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device. It is usually recorded as series and subscribers get to pay for each new release. You can sell your podcasts on Simplecast or even directly from your blog or website.
5.       Offer Coaching Services for Sale on TeachableAs an experienced school administrator, teacher, you can offer your wealth of experience as coaching services on platforms like Teachable. You get to bill your clients on an hourly basis. You can also offer such coaching services on your own websites. With Zoom, Google Meet, Skype and other video conferencing tools, there is no time than now for educators to earn from coaching services. I once mentioned how Steve Harris collects $500 for 2hours of business coaching.
So, as educators think deeply on how can you leverage the digital space to create digital businesses that can run 24/7 online.
